Theories of Counseling is designed to help you begin thinking about specific approaches to treating a variety of clients. The field is rapidly moving toward a theory of differential treatment. Rather than committing to one theory of counseling and psychotherapy, counselors more often develop their own personal theory and are likely to use an array of techniques to meet the specific needs of the individual client and situation. The focus of this course is on the major theories of counseling. Class time will be devoted to discussing these theories as well as exploring your personal views regarding therapeutic change.
